strategy/plan for research

o   Participants

o   I am going to observe middle aged women and the workers in my nails salon, and the workers at the louis vuitton store

o   Method & Data Collection:

o    At the nail salon i will time it so that i come into the salon the same time as a older woman and see if the workers take her or i first, at the louis vuitton store i will once go in dressed nicely to make myself seem older and see the response or help i get, and go back another time dressed in sweats for a younger relaxed look and see the response

o   Predictions:

o    i expect to get better service and be treated better at the louis store when im dressed nicer and look older and i expect them to take the older woman first at the nail salon which both instances would prove my point 

§  I’m looking forward to proving my point of ageism in our society.

Suggested Research Method

Im choosing to use naturalistic observation because i feel that observing other people using ageism or becoming victims of ageism in our society is very common. I feel like especially in bergen county you see it in restaurant  nicer stores, nail salons, and even at the grocery store. Im going to observe people at my nail salon, at the starbucks in my town, and at the louis vuitton store in GSP. This is going to work perfectly with my topic because at all the places im going to observe there is some type of ageism being presented.

Fighting Ageism in Hollywood

I think i big place ageism is present is in hollywood. every new movie or tv series that comes out casts the young energetic people to play the most important roles and you only see people over 40 or 50 cats as a grandparent or an older figure that doesnt play a vital role. I believe that everyone should get a fair chance in hollywood because if someone is older and has been in the industry longer theres a chance that they better equppied to do the job and they have more experience. I actually feel that alot of the younger new actors arent tht good and all the new tv series that are coming out just suck because the actors arent even good or they seem so fake it just ruins the show.

Ageism in Silicon Valley

I was reading a few article and i came across one on the ageism in silicon valley and one mans individual experience. I thought it was interesting that the minute he changed his appearance he landed a job. I think that discrimination because of age is a huge problem simply for the fact that great workers are turned down every day simply because of a number. Just because someone may be younger and be able to hold the job a longer time doesnt make them more qualified than the older person who may be capable of doing a better job. Ageism in Society: The work place

In todays society you see ageism alot of places but a main place is defintely where people work. In alot of offices, you see the older people have better jobs, get paid more or are less accepting of the younger workers. It also goes the opposite way because once employees get older they worry about not getting the job or maybe having to be asked to retire soon because they are as efficient as the younger workers. http://www.foxnews.com/health/2012/06/07/is-ageism-widespread-in-workplace/ In my opinion i feel the latter is the bigger problem because as employees get older they are more likely to get passed over for a promotion or job opportunity because there is a younger more efficient worker who can do a better job. I noticed that in my parents office ( they own a furniture distribution company) that the older employees sometimes aren't given equal opportunities. I think that more company owners need to realize that just because someone is older doesnt mean they cant do an equally good job and be as productive.

Why I chose Ageism

yes i am totally writing my first post in an obnoxious purple because i can ! i chose ageism because i think in today's society the group that is targeted the most is teens and i fall into that category  Whether its nail salons, stores, or even school you see the unfair treatment of a person simply because of there age. I think this topic will be easy to blog about because its something i see every day, something i have personal stories about, and something i feel strongly about.
